Dailey Selected for United States FIBA U19 World Cup Squad
June 16, 2023 | Cowboy Basketball
Incoming Oklahoma State freshman Eric Dailey Jr. will play for the United States at the 2023 FIBA U19 Men's World Cup later this month in Debrecen, Hungary.
Dailey – a 6-foot-8 forward from Bradenton, Fla. -- was among a group of 30 invitees who took part in USA Basketball's training camp in Colorado Springs and one of just 12 selected for the final roster, which was announced Friday morning.
Dailey will be joined in Hungary by OSU head coach Mike Boynton Jr., who is serving as an assistant coach on the U.S. staff.
The Americans meet squads from Madagascar (June 24, 5 a.m. CT), Slovenia (June 25) and Lebanon (June 27) during pool play to determine its seeding in the 16-team placement bracket, June 28-July 2. Fans can watch live streams of all games at youtube.com/fiba.
Dailey is looking to become the fifth Cowboy in the last decade to win gold at this event, joining Marcus Smart (2013), Jawun Evans (2015), Isaac Likekele (2019) and Cade Cunningham (2019), while adding to an already impressive international resume.
The consensus four-star recruit was part of gold medals squads at the 2022 FIBA U18 Americas and the 2021 3x3 U18 World Cup (also in Hungary), also winning the slam dunk contest at the latter. He's been involved with multiple USA Basketball mini camps over the years and, in April, took part in the 2023 USA Men's Nike Hoop Summit.
The FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup is a biennial competition featuring the world's top 16 youth men's national teams. Team USA is an eight-time champion with gold medals in four of the last five. To learn more, visit the tournament central page.
