Cowgirl Softball Falters Against No. 1/1 Oklahoma in Regular Season Finale
May 07, 2023 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER– The No. 7/6 Oklahoma State Softball team dropped Sunday's contest to No. 1/1 Oklahoma, 5-1, at Cowgirl Stadium.
With the result, OSU moved to 41-13 overall and 10-8 in Big 12 play. Oklahoma moved to 49-1 and 18-0 against conference opposition.
It was a pitcher's duel in the early innings as OSU's Lexi Kilfoyl and OU's Alex Storako went to work in the circle, with Kilfoyl boasting a 1.94 ERA and Storako holding a 0.75 ERA entering today's contest.
OU's first scoring chance came in the second inning, when catcher Haley Lee hit a ball deep into center field. However, Cowgirl outfielder Chyenne Factor leapt up and over the wall to rob Lee of her 16th homer of the season.
The Sooners struck first with a pair of runs in the third inning and added two more in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead.
Following another OU run in the top of the sixth, the Cowgirls pulled one back in their half of the inning. After Factor got on base with a single, redshirt freshman Micaela Wark brought her home with an RBI double down the right field line to cut the deficit to 5-1 and cap the scoring for both teams.
The Cowgirls begin postseason play with the Big 12 Tournament in Oklahoma City from May 11-13. OSU is set to open the tournament against Kansas on Thursday, May 11, with a 6 p.m. start time; the game will be streamed on ESPN+ and can be heard on The Varsity Network.
