May 11, 2023 | Cowgirl Basketball
STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State's women's basketball team will cap its summer with a three-game tour of Italy and Greece in August it was announced today.
Head coach Jacie Hoyt's squad will make its way across the Atlantic Ocean on August 1 before returning home August 11th. The Cowgirls' trip will take them to Rome, Sorrento and Athens with three games against opponents to be determined at a later date.
"We are incredibly excited to have the resources and opportunity to expose our program and give our players an opportunity to travel abroad. It will add tremendous value to their life experience, education and allow our team to get practice and game reps we wouldn't get otherwise," Hoyt said.
"I believe this trip will expedite the process of our new roster being able to come together and gel as quickly as possible. I'm very thankful to our administration and donors who have made this possible."
OSU's tentative itinerary includes a visit to the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain as well as the Roman Colosseum upon arrival in Rome. The Cowgirls will also visit the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica before their first game of the trip.
A three-day visit to Sorrento will follow and include time spent at Piazza Tasso and the Amalfi Coast before the team makes its way to Athens. In addition to ascending the Acropolis, the Cowgirls will pay a visit to the Parthenon and the Temple of Athena Nike.
A visit to the Panatheniac Stadium and Olympic Stadium as well as two more games will round out the tour before the team returns to Stillwater.
The trip will be the first for OSU since the program visited Australia in the summer of 2017.
