Cowboy Baseball Falls At TCU
April 07, 2023 | Cowboy Baseball
FORT WORTH, Texas – Oklahoma State had its three-game conference winning streak snapped Saturday night as the 11th-ranked Cowboys dropped a 7-3 contest to TCU at Lupton Stadium.
With the loss, OSU fell to 23-9 overall and 7-4 in Big 12 play, while TCU improved to 19-12 and 6-5 in the league. The outcome sets up a Saturday rubber game, with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.
Offensively, the Cowboys were led by Roc Riggio, who went 2-for-3 with a home run, while Tyler Wulfert also went deep.
Ben Abram took the loss on the mound to fall to 4-2 as the right-hander finished with nine strikeouts, one shy of his career high, in five innings of work. He allowed five runs on eight hits.
OSU jumped out to the game's initial lead in the third. After Riggio walked and David Mendham was hit by a pitch, Nolan Schubart stepped to the plate and ripped a double to right-center field to put the Pokes up 1-0.
The Cowboys clung to the lead until the fourth when the Frogs knotted the score on Anthony Silva's solo home run with two outs.
OSU answered in the fifth on Riggio's 10th round tripper of the season, a shot to right-centerfield that gave the Cowboys a 2-1 advantage.
The lead was short lived, however, as TCU struck for four runs in the bottom of the fifth, the big blow coming on a two-run homer by Silva, to put the Frogs up, 5-2.
TCU tacked on two more runs in the sixth off OSU reliever Brian Hendry before Wulfert opened the seventh with his sixth homer of the season over the wall in right-center field to make the score 7-3.
