OSU Track & Field Travels to Arizona for Jim Click Shootout
April 05, 2023 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State track & field continues the outdoor season as it travels to Tucson, Ariz., for the Jim Click Shootout from April 6-8.
Field event and sprint athletes headline the lineup for the Cowboys and Cowgirls with the multi-event athletes opening their respective Hep and Decathlons this weekend.
"It's great to come back to Arizona after a few years away, especially given the meet's namesake and his connection to our program," Throws, Multis and Vaults coach Josh Langley said. "The meet is stacked, especially in the throws and it will give our athletes a chance to get high-level competition in a controlled environment. This is a big step up this weekend in a lot of events and I'm looking forward to seeing how we respond."
Bailey Golden, Olivija Vaitaityte and Annie Molenhouse open their first Heptathlon of the season Thursday with the first four events of the Hep (100 Hurdles, High Jump, Shot Put and 200 Meters) competing on day one.
Golden and Vaitaityte will be competing in their first full Heptathlons since the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Championships, where the pair became the first Cowgirl multis to ever qualify for the NCAA Championships.
Philip Frank will also be competing in his first full Decathlon since joining the Cowboys from Texas this season. Frank holds a personal-best score of 7,188 points from last season, which would be OSU's program record if he can match or best his PR in a Cowboy uniform.
"We are excited to get our first one under our belt this weekend for the Multis," Langley said. "While this meet is important, we are using it to prepare ourselves for later this season and into the summer as these young men and women represent OSU and their countries at the highest level."
On the track, several athletes will be making their season debuts in open events after competing in relays at the Texas Relays last weekend.
Ava Honore, Madi Surber and Michaela Travers open up in the open 800 Meters after teaming up in the 4x800 Meter Relay last weekend. Kaylie Politza and Mackenzie Michael will also be competing for the first time this outdoor season in the women's 800 Meters.
In the women's 400 Meters, Kalaya Ali, Tori Ortiz, Ansley Scott, Yasmine Johnson and Tamara Woodley will be competing individually for the first time this season after competing in Texas last weekend.
On the men's side, Elijah Berry and Justin Smith return to the track in the 800 Meters after competing in the 4x400 Meter Relay last weekend. Joining them in the 800 Meters are James Edmond, Riley McGowan, Sebastian Pesante and Triston Read.
In the 400 Meters, Charlie Bartholomew, Justin Long, DJ McArthur, Cash Merutka, Hunter Reimers and Pesante will be opening their individual outdoor seasons looking to set regional-qualifying marks in the Arizona heat.
Competition for the Jim Click Shootout begins Thursday with the multis and will run through Saturday night. Live results for the meet can be found here.
