Cowgirl Distance Medley Relay Squad Finishes Second in Loaded Field at Penn Relays
April 28, 2023 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
PHILADELPHIA โ Oklahoma State Distance Medley Relay squads kicked off OSU's multi-meet weekend at the rainy Penn Relays in Philadelphia on Friday.
ย
Despite the rainy conditions and facing a loaded field, OSU's women's indoor school record-holding DMR highlighted the day after landing a second-place finish, clocking an impressive 10:53.18 finish, placing pnly behind NCAA Indoor Champions Stanford. A competitive race through-and-through, OSU and Stanford ran together for the back half of the race, with Stanford ultimately taking the victory by a slim three seconds.
ย
Taylor Roe put the wheels in motion for the Cowgirls, keeping them in the upper half after the first split and tabbing a 1,200 Meters finish of 3:22.73. Tamara Woodley then upped the momentum with a 53.22 second 400 Meters leg. She put the Cowgirls within striking distance when Gabija Galvydyte took over the 800 Meters leg and willed the Cowgirls further. Galvydyte's 2:04.51 was the fastest time in that split that included NCAA Champion Roisin Willis and put OSU just behind Stanford.
ย
Billah Jepkirui stepped up next and ran a blistering 4:32.73 mile as OSU's anchor. Jepkirui also clocked the fastest split, joining Galvydyte as the two Cowgirls leading the field.
ย
On the men's side, OSU put forth a 9:37.41 effort against another field of high-level contenders. Each of the top seven finishers fell within five seconds of each other.
ย
The Cowboys and Cowgirls will be back in action tomorrow with more relays in Philadelphia, while sprint and jump groups take on the Corky/Crofoot Shootout in Lubbock, Texas.
