STILLWATER โ After averaging 15.8 points, 5.6 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game at East Carolina in 2022-23, Javon Small has signed to play basketball at Oklahoma State. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
ย
A starter in 17 of the 18 games in which he played for the Pirates last season, Small shot 40 percent from the field, 33 percent from three-point range and 85 percent from the line. He dished out 100 assists in just 18 games.
ย
He reached a double-figure scoring total in 15 games in 2022-23, including a 23-point effort against Cincinnati in what ended up being his final game in an ECU uniform due to injury. His season-high scoring output was a 27-point performance on just 11 field goals attempted against Indiana State.
ย
"We're really looking forward to having Javon in a Cowboy uniform," OSU head coach Mike Boynton said. "His ability to create shots for himself and others addresses an area where we need improvement. He is fearless and selfless.
ย
"His family, especially his mom, Jovanna, has really helped develop a high-level competitor and someone with great desire to win," Boynton said.
ย
Originally from South Bend, Indiana, where he played under former OSU point guard Andre Owens, Small attended Franklin Central HS in Indianapolis for two years before enrolling at Compass Prep in Chandler, Arizona before attending East Carolina for his first two seasons at the college level.
ย
After deciding to transfer, he chose Oklahoma State over Oklahoma, Ohio State and others.
ย
A four-star transfer prospect according to 247sports and a proven Division I playmaker, Small joins a 2023 Oklahoma State recruiting class that garnered a top 10 national ranking from both Rivals (No. 9) and ESPN (No. 10) even before his arrival. In addition to Small, OSU's incoming class includes McDonald's All-Americanย Brandon Garrisonย (Del City, Okla.), Team USA U18 standout Eric Dailey Jr., a pair of top-150 national recruits inย Justin McBrideย (Plano, Texas) andย Jamyron Kellerย (Killeen, Texas) andย Connor Dowย (Broken Arrow, Okla.)
