Cowgirl Tennis Comes Up Short In Big 12 Semifinal

Lawrence, Kan. – Oklahoma State's 18^th-ranked women's tennis team came up short in its Big 12 Championship semifinal matchup against No. 12 Texas with a 4-3 setback on Saturday afternoon at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.

OSU moves to 15-7 overall and 8-3 in conference play this season.

The Longhorns took an early lead by securing the doubles point. Nicole Rivkin and Taisiya Pachkaleva bested Alana Wolfberg and Kristina Novak, 6-2, on court two. Sofia Rojas and Lucia Peyre quickly responded on court three after picking up a huge 6-3 victory over Texas' Nicole Khirin and Malaika Rapolu.

After a back-and-forth battle on court one, fourteenth-ranked Ayumi Miyamoto and Raquel Gonzalez fell to No. 54 Charlotte Chavatipon and Sabina Zeynalova, 7-5, to give the Longhorns the advantage.

OSU did not back down in singles play but ultimately could not recover starting with Rapolu's 6-4, 6-2 victory over Gonzalez. Miyamoto extended her winning streak to thirteen by beating Taisiya Pachkaleva, 6-2, 6-4, before Peyre defeated No. 108 Zeynalova, 6-4, 6-2.

Rojas gave the Cowgirls the lead after besting Rivkin in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4. Novak came up short in a tightly contested match against No. 92 Khirin, 6-4, 4-6, 1-6.

Wolfberg struggled in the first set against No. 97 Chavatipon but battled point for point the rest of the way. Ultimately, the Longhorn pulled out a 6-0, 5-7, 6-4 match-clinching victory in a very exciting matchup.

OSU will find out is postseason standing Monday during the 2023 NCAA Selection Day.
