OSU Track & Field Wraps Up Multi-Meet Weekend with Several More Impressive Marks
April 22, 2023 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State track & field wrapped up its multi-meet weekend in successful fashion on Saturday at the John Jacobs and Payton Jordan Invitationals in Norman, Okla., and Palo Alto, Calif., respectively.
At the John Jacobs Invitational, OSU tacked on four individual winners in Hannah Bradford (Discus Throw), Daniel Nickell Jr. (1,500 Meters), Cameron McConnell (800 Meters) and Molly Humes (3,000 Meter Steeplechase). On the weekend, seven total athletes claimed the top spot in their respective events. Friday's winners included Isai Rodriguez (10,000 Meters), Bailey Golden (Long Jump) and Ben Calusinski (5,000 Meters).
Bradford earned her second victory in the Discus Throw this outdoor season with an impressive personal best throw of 53.68 Meters. Bradford continues to show remarkable consistency this season, as she has yet to fall below the 50-meter mark thus far. She set her previous best over a year ago at the Sooner Invitational in 2022.
In the men's 1,500 Meters, Nickell took a comfortable victory with a 3:55.36 finish. Nickell, the lone Cowboy in the event, outlasted Oklahoma's Jordan Gledhill by four seconds, after the two claimed the top spots for most of the race. Nickell now has podium placements in consecutive 1,500 Meters races.
In the women's 800 Meters, McConnell led a quintet of Cowgirls to five of the top six spots overall. McConnell collected her first career victory in the event with a 2:12.89 finish. OSU veterans Heidi Demeo and Krystal Rodriguez filled the rest of the podium with their 2:14.29 and 2:14.44 finishes, respectively.
Humes earned her second career victory in the 3,000 Meter Steeplechase, with freshman teammate Katie Armstrong finishing in second. Humes finished in 10:53.54, a personal best. With her victory, an OSU Cowgirl has reached the top spot of the Steeplechase in back-to-back weekends, with Payton Hinkle taking the victory in last weekend's Sooner Invitational.
Also in Norman, Sam Mason and Golden earned podium visits in their respective events. Mason tried his hand at the Javelin Throw, where he earned a third place finish with a 49.27-meter hurl. In his first competition in the event, Mason landed sixth on OSU's leaderboard. Golden continued her strong showing this weekend with a second place mark in the 100 Meters Hurdles, finishing in 14.22 seconds.
At the Payton Jordan Invitational, Anne Gine Lovnes secured a heat victory in the 1,500 Meters, with a collegiate best mark of 4:22.71. Kaylie Politza also competed in the event for the first time in her career, as she tabbed a 4:35.59 finish.
On the men's side of that event, Christopher Middleton-Pearson and Isaiah Priddey put forth 3:44.83 and 3:47.09 efforts, respectively. Middleton-Pearson's finish is a personal outdoor best.
Up next for the Cowboys and Cowgirls, another multi-meet week at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Penn., and the Corky/Crofoot Shootout in Lubbock, Texas.
