Cowgirl Softball Falls To No. 23/23 Wichita State
April 18, 2023 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – No. 3/3 Oklahoma State lost its second-consecutive extra-innings contest after it fell to No. 23/23 Wichita State, 3-1 in eight innings, Tuesday night at Cowgirl Stadium.
With the loss, OSU fell to 39-5 and WSU moved to 37-8.
The Shockers were first to score. A first-inning RBI single from Lauren Mills gave WSU the 1-0 lead.
Hits were hard to come by as the game was locked in a pitcher's duel between Oklahoma State's Lexi Kilfoyl and Wichita State's starter Alex Aguilar.
The Shockers' lone run of the first inning was the only run scored in regulation.
Kilfoyl tied a career-high with 8.0 innings pitched, as the senior right-handed pitcher allowed only six hits and tallied 10 strikeouts, her third double-digit strikeout performance of the season.
The Cowgirls tied the game at one run apiece in the bottom of the seventh.
Katie Lott opened the inning with a pinch-hit single, followed by a successful bunt base hit from Rachel Becker that advanced the Megan Bloodworth who came back in to pinc run.
Chyenne Factor's executed a proper sacrifice bunt to get runners to second and third. Morgyn Wynne scored the equalizer with an RBI groundout that sent the game into extra innings.
Wichita State broke the deadlock in the top of the eighth with a two-run blast, effectively ending the game in the lead, 3-1.
Rachel Becker – who went 2-for-4 on the night – extended her on-base streak to 44 consecutive games and her hitting streak to 20 consecutive games.
Wichita State seemed to pitch around graduate infielder Kiley Naomi. The Cowgirls' starting shortstop was walked in each of her four plate appearances, the first time a Cowgirl tallied four bases on balls since Brianna Evans against Minnesota on March 6, 2022.
The Cowgirls resume Big 12 play with a trip to Austin, Texas, for a three-game series against the No. 7/8 Longhorns beginning Thursday.
Game one is set to be nationally televised on ESPN2 with an 8 p.m. first pitch. Games two and three of the series will be televised on the Longhorn Network; fans can also tune into The Varsity Network for all three games.
