Top Recruit Eric Dailey Jr. Signs with Oklahoma State to Cap Top-10 National Class
April 12, 2023 | Cowboy Basketball
STILLWATER – Eric Dailey Jr., a top-50 national recruit and gold medal winner for the USA Basketball Under-18 National Team, signed with Oklahoma State today.
Known for his strength and versatility, Dailey chose OSU over reported offers from Kentucky, Kansas, Michigan and other prominent programs.
When he committed to Oklahoma State, Dailey cited his relationship with OSU coach Mike Boynton as a key factor. Dailey and Boynton won gold together for Team USA at the FIBA U18 Americas Championship in the summer of 2022 and Dailey's mother, Shell, was an assistant coach for the University of South Carolina women's team while Boynton was a point guard for the Gamecock men.
"I've known Eric for most of his life and I am beyond thrilled that he has chosen to become part of our program along his life's journey to become a pro," Boynton said.
Dailey comes from a basketball family. In addition to coaching at South Carolina and Texas A&M at the collegiate level, his mother played at Texas and coached professionally with the WNBA's San Antonio Silver Stars and the ABL's Nashville Noise. His father, Eric, played for Moe Iba at TCU and professionally in Spain.
"Eric's parents have raised a hard-working, respectful and goal-oriented young man who possesses a high-level desire to succeed. He wants his team to win more than anything and has always been a great teammate," Boynton said.
Dailey has extensive experience with USA Basketball. In addition to his experience at the FIBA U18 Americas Championship, Dailey was included on the 2023 USA Men's Nike Hoop Summit roster and was a member of the 2021 USA Basketball 3x3 U18 World Cup Team that won gold in Hungary. He has also participated in multiple USA Basketball minicamps.
"He is a really dynamic playmaker with the ability to create shots for himself and his teammates," Boynton said. "We look forward to his versatility on both ends of the court."
Dailey joins an Oklahoma State signing class that includes his USA U18 teammate and McDonald's All-American Brandon Garrison (Del City, Okla.), a pair of top-150 national recruits in Justin McBride (Plano, Texas) and Jamyron Keller (Killeen, Texas) and Connor Dow (Broken Arrow, Okla.)
Oklahoma State's 2023 recruiting class garnered a top-10 national ranking from Rivals (No. 9) and ESPN (No. 10), marking the second time since 2020 that Boynton and his staff have attracted a top-10 national class to Stillwater. 247sports ranks the OSU class No. 11 nationally, which is the highest ranking ever achieved by the Cowboys since the publication began its team rankings in 2011.
