March 19, 2023 | Cowboy Baseball
LUBBOCK, Texas – Oklahoma State lost the rubber game of its opening Big 12 series with a 12-1 run-rule setback in seven innings against Texas Tech Sunday at Rip Griffin Park.
With the loss, the 12th-ranked Cowboys fell to 16-5 overall and 1-2 in Big 12 play, while No. 12 TTU is now 18-4 and 2-1 in the league.
OSU managed just four hits in the contest, and Juaron Watts-Brown took the loss on the mound as he allowed eight runs, only four of them earned, on six hits to fall to 2-1; the right-hander struck out seven and issued four walks.
The Cowboys took the game's initial lead in their first at bat when, after an Aidan Meola triple, David Mendham ripped a single up the middle.
The 1-0 advantage held until the third. Hudson White drew a leadoff walk and eventually came around to plate the tying run on an RBI double by Gage Harrelson. The Red Raiders went on top when Harrelson, who reached third on an error, scored an unearned run on a sacrifice fly.
TTU took control of the scoreboard with a 10-run rally in the fifth, with a grand slam by Austin Green and a two-run homer by Damian Bravo pushing the Red Raiders' lead to 8-1 before four consecutive RBI singles gave the home team an 11-run advantage.
OSU returns to action Wednesday with a road test at Wichita State before opening a weekend series against Baylor Friday in Stillwater.
