Cowboys Advance to Second Round of NIT With Win Over Youngstown State

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio ---- Oklahoma State men's basketball moved on to the second round of the National Invitational Tournament after Wednesday's 69-64 win over Youngstown State.

OSU improved to 19-15, while Youngstown St. fell to 24-10.

The Cowboys trailed 36-33 heading into the halftime break after a buzzer-beating three from Caleb Asberry, but outscored the Penguins 36-28 in the second half.

Tyreek Smith led the Cowboys in scoring for the first time in his career with 13 points, and also recorded his first career double-double with 11 rebounds.

Moussa Cisse grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds and recorded his sixth double-double of the season with 11 points. Cisse dominated around the rim, blocking two shots on the defensive end and shot 5-for-6 from the floor on offense.

Quion Wiliams also recorded a double-double, the first of his career, with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Williams' 11 rebounds set a new career-high, surpassing his previous high of seven.

OSU had three players record double-doubles in the same game for the first time since Nov. 14, 2009, against Seattle.

The Cowboys took control of the game by using its size on the interior, tying a season-high with 49 rebounds. OSU corralled 19 offensive rebounds and turned those into a season-high 23 second-chance points.

OSU led for just 7:30, but took an eight-point lead with 1:33 remaining in the game.

The Cowboys will be back in action on either Saturday or Sunday, facing the Eastern Washington Eagles in the second-round.
