Dave Smith and Billah Jepkirui Highlight Big 12 Indoor Awards Following Program’s First Conference Track & Field Title

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Dave Smith and freshman distance runner Billah Jepkirui were awarded Big 12 Women's Coach and Outstanding Freshman of the Year, respectively, following the program's historic title-winning season, the conference announced today.
The award is Smith's 18th Big 12 Coach of the Year award in his career and his third track & field honor (2014 & 2016). He guided the Cowgirls to their first track & field conference title in program history, defeating No. 1 Texas in the process. The Cowgirls scored a program-record 146 points and claimed four conference titles. Combined, OSU scored the most points overall (257) and crowned the most champions (nine) at the Big 12 meet.
Meanwhile, Jepkirui earned her first career conference honor after winning her first two Big 12 titles in the Mile and as the Mile leg of the Distance Medley Relay. She also placed fifth in the 3,000 Meters, giving her 16.5 points, which were vital to the Cowgirls as they secured the overall team title.
