February 23, 2023 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track
LUBBOCK, Texas – Oklahoma State indoor track & field travels to Lubbock, Texas, for the Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday and Saturday at the Texas Tech Sports Performance Center.
Both the Cowboys and Cowgirls are coming off highly successful regular seasons in which ten school records were broken across nine events, with Fouad Messaoudi breaking the program record in the 3,000 Meters twice.
The Cowboys enter the conference meet ranked No. 6 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national ratings index, climbing in every single poll this season after starting the year ranked No. 20.
As it stands, four Cowboys would qualify individually for the NCAA Indoor Championships in three separate events, with Messaoudi and Ryan Schoppe having current qualifying times in the Mile and 3,000 Meters. Alex Maier holds qualifying times in the 3,000 and 5,000 Meters, with Isai Rodriguez also holding a current qualifying time in the 5K.
The men's DMR squad of Messaoudi, Schoppe, DJ McArthur and Hafez Mahadi currently hold the No. 1 time in the NCAA after setting the collegiate record in the event with their time of 9:16.40 at the Arkansas Qualifier.
On the women's side, the Cowgirls enter the Big 12 Championships ranked 23rd in the country and second in the conference heading into the weekend.
Currently, five individual Cowgirls: Gabija Galvydyte (Mile), Taylor Roe (3,000 Meters), Natalie Cook (5,000 Meters), Ariadni Adamopoulou (Pole Vault) and Bailey Golden (Pentathlon) and the Cowgirl DMR hold national-qualifying marks heading into the last week of the season.
Hosted by Texas Tech, the entire meet will be streamed live on ESPN+ starting at 10 a.m. both days. Championship events will begin with the 60-meter hurdles as part of the women's pentathlon at 10 a.m. Friday, while the men's 4x400-meter relay will close out competition at 5:55 p.m. Saturday.
