Series History: Cowboys in Familiar Territory Against Texas A&M
December 26, 2023 | Cowboy Football
Oklahoma State will be in familiar territory as it lines up against Texas A&M at the TaxAct Texas Bowl on Wednesday.
As a former Big 12 member, and a team who most recently met the Cowboys at the 2019 Texas Bowl, Texas A&M has also seen plenty of America's Brightest Orange.
Oklahoma State trails 18-10 in its all-time series against Texas A&M but carries a strong edge in recent history, winning four of the last five contests.Â
The Cowboys' lone loss in this stretch came in their most recent battle – the 2019 Texas Bowl.Â
In the contest, Chuba Hubbard uncorked 158 rushing yards, including a 42-yard gain, across 19 carries, while Brayden Johnson accounted for both of Dru Brown's passing touchdowns, hauling in five receptions for 124 yards.
Oklahoma State opened the contest with a 14-0 lead after one quarter, but the Aggies chipped away with 24 points unanswered.
The Cowboys had an opportunity to win after Johnson picked up his second touchdown with 1:14 to play, but the Aggies recovered the onside kick to win, 24-21.
In the 29th meeting between teams, head coach Mike Gundy will look to rise above .500 against the Aggies, as he currently sits 4-4 against the program. Interim head coach Elijah Robinson has never faced the Cowboys.
Additionally, he will look to bolster the Cowboys' strong 21-12 bowl resume, which includes 18 consecutive appearances and the highest winning percentage (63.9%) among teams who have played in 30+ bowl games. He is also looking to notch his 12th bowl win – which would move him into a tie for the sixth-most bowl wins by a head coach in history.
Action for the 2023 TaxAct Texas Bowl is slated for 8 p.m. CT on Wednesday, Dec. 27. The game will be televised live on ESPN with Roy Philpott, Roddy Jones and Taylor McGregor on the call.
