Oklahoma State Players Discuss Upcoming TaxAct Texas Bowl
December 21, 2023 | Cowboy Football
HOUSTON, Texas – Student-athletes met with the media on Thursday in Houston to discuss Oklahoma State's upcoming matchup against Texas A&M in the TaxAct Texas Bowl. Here are some of their comments:
Safety Kendal Daniels
On having extra time to prepare for Texas A&M:
"I feel like this is way better, just because we have a couple weeks to be able to sit down, watch film and go through every single game. Take our time and really sit down and see what our coaches have learned about them."
On potentially reaching 10 wins in a season:
"It would mean a lot to get to ten wins. It means a lot for the team, the fans and the culture of OSU football."
On the most memorable part of this season:
"How together we came. Nobody pointed their fingers, how together we are. It's not how the beginning of the season happened; it's how we ended it."
Wide receiver Brennan Presley
On preparing for an SEC opponent:
"I would say there's more physical stuff. More establishing the run and stuff like that. They are a bigger defense. In the Big 12, they play a lot of zones (coverage), but some teams run a lot of man (coverage). In the SEC, they play a lot of man. Just more of working on your skills rather than a team's schematic thing."
On what he'll remember about the 2023 season:
"It sounds weird, but I'll remember the losses more than anything, kind of. Just how we handled the losses and then what we did the next week. We didn't let any loss linger on or hurt us or anything like that. We took a loss and bounced back. It's really exciting and good to see how we went throughout the year."
Linebacker Xavier Benson
On liking the matchup against A&M:
"There's something about the SEC versus the Big 12 that I like. Or just the conferences in general. They've got some big teams, but we can show them that we're just as big and physical. That's why I like it."
On what the team has specifically been working on this week:
"This week, (we're) making sure everything's clean and cleaning up everything. Everybody knows their job. Being able to suggest on the fly, just in case we get another lick that we're not ready for. We're getting ready overcommunicate and stuff like that. If we stay solid and communicate, we'll be fine."
On how much it would mean for OSU to reach 10 wins:
"A lot. It shows how much we can persevere and fight through. I feel like this whole team has been built off that togetherness and perseverance. I know it would mean a lot to me because I hate losing. I think it would mean a lot."
