Loyal and True Brave the Elements in Hope of Seeing the Cowboys in Action
November 30, 2023 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATERÂ -Â Ticket-seeking students camped outside of Boone Pickens Stadium Sunday night in sub-freezing temperatures in hopes of securing a ticket to the Big 12 Championship.
Â
Following a win against BYU on Saturday, the Oklahoma State Cowboys earned a spot in the Big 12 Championship to be held in Arlington on Dec. 2. Amid the win against BYU, fans stayed through rain, near-freezing temperatures and double overtime en route to the win. Ollie Gordon led the charge in the second half, scoring a school record-matching five touchdowns to add to his Heisman and Doak Walker Award campaigns.
Â
The OSU ticket office planned to sell its limited number of student tickets starting Monday at 7 a.m. At roughly 9 on the evening prior, students began pitching tents prepared to brave the sub-freezing temperatures.Â
Â
"Having a fan base that is truly loyal and true, it never fails to amaze me to see all those guys out there supporting us," linebacker Collin Oliver said. "I love it. I really do. I love our fans a lot."
Â
Cowboy players came to show love to the campers who hoped to once again support them on the field. Wide receiver Brennan Presley was one of the Cowboys on site. Following his 100-yard day on the field, Presley and teammates walked along the line of tents to mingle with campers and raise spirits.
Â
"It was cold out there," Presley said. "That kind of put in perspective, all the dedication and hard work. People see it and they put time in too, coming into games and getting tickets. I'm so appreciative of the fans that we have here because they're so great. That's something you don't see every day and that's something you don't see everywhere."
Â
While the Cowboy faithful were prepared to brave the cold night, the ticket office remedied the situation by giving vouchers that allowed students to come back later in the day to claim their tickets.
Â
The line of tents that nearly wrapped the stadium was a notable sight even for players who weren't at the scene. The sight caught plenty of attention online as it reached multiple social platforms and became the talking point of the town for the night.Â
Â
"That was insane," linebacker Xavier Benson said. It was cold outside. I know (they) were cold but that's the dedicated loyal and true. It's nice to see."
Â
As OSU prepares to bring home a Big 12 Championship title, fans of OSU once again prove why they're referred to as the loyal and true.Â
