Cowboy Football Players Participate in Résumé Building Event
November 23, 2023 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – More than 100 Oklahoma State student-athletes participated in a résumé review day last week.
Ten Cowboy football players joined the event, as several student-athletes have professional ambitions outside of sports. Employment experts from around campus and local businesspeople gathered in Gallagher-Iba Arena to critique student-athletes' résumés, then assist them in creating the best possible résumé moving forward.
Student-athletes spent approximately 30 minutes with a professional, who would review their current résumés with them and give feedback for improvement.
Last season, 33 OSU football players earned Academic All-Big 12 honors and tied Kansas State for the most in the Big 12. Twenty-nine Cowboys made the first team, while four garnered second-team status. Three Cowboys – Alex Hale, Aden Kelley and Logan Ward – were three of 14 players in the conference to earn a 4.00 grade point average.
Hale, OSU's Lou Groza Award semifinalist kicker, attended the résumé building event as an applied exercise major. Hale has earned first-team academic All-Big 12 honors four times in his career and looks to make it five this season. He would become the third Cowboy in school history to accomplish the feat and the second Cowboy in as many years, with Brock Martin accomplishing it last year.
Cowboy fullback Jake Schultz also attended the event. Schultz is a forest ecology and management major who's earned first-team honors three-straight years. Cale Cabbiness, Zach Middleton, Jordan Reagan and Ty Williams were the other All-Big 12 team members from last year to join the event.
The event wasn't limited to All-Big 12 academic team members. Lyrik Rawls, Shea Friebaum, Quinton Stewart and Kenneth Harris were the other lettermen to participate.
As student-athletes gear up for life after collegiate sports, OSU has served as a helping hand for members of all varsity sports. With the goal of creating bright futures for all its student-athletes, events such as this one act as an important step toward life after college.
