EDMOND, Okla. – The Oklahoma Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame inducted seven outstanding representatives of the sport Sunday, including former Cowboy wrestler Todd Chesbro, who was presented with the Outstanding American Award.
From a legendary Oklahoma wrestling family, Chesbro wrestled for Oklahoma State from 1989-92 and was a three-time NCAA All-American, two-time Big Eight Conference individual champion and a member of two NCAA championship teams. Chesbro was an NCAA finalist in his final season as a Cowboy and one of 45 wrestlers in program history to surpass the century mark in wins with a career record of 101-29. He also excelled in the classroom, twice earning Academic All-American honors and was awarded both a Big Eight and NCAA post-graduate scholarship.
Chesbro graduated from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1996 and has used the skills he learned in wrestling to battle in the courtroom, serving stints as an assistant district attorney in two Oklahoma counties. He was a captain and member of the Major Crime Team for Tulsa County from 2002-2007 and the Director of Robbery Division and team captain from 2018-22. Chesbro currently serves as the Major Crime and Drug Trafficking Prosecutor for the Rogers County District Attorney's Office.
Todd's father, Tommy Chesbro, was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame as a Distinguished Member in 1995. He served as head coach of the Oklahoma State wrestling team from 1970-84, racking up 227 dual meet victories to just 26 defeats and leading the Cowboys to an NCAA team title in 1971.
