Series History: Cowboys Face Bearcats For First Time In 30 Years
October 27, 2023 | Cowboy Football
When Oklahoma State last faced Cincinnati, Mike Gundy had yet to step foot in Stillwater, and none of OSU or Cincy's current players were alive.Â
On Saturday, these two teams will square off for the fourth time in history and its first in over 30 years as the Cowboys face the Bearcats at Boone Pickens Stadium. For the Cowboys, they'll be looking to notch their first win over the Bearcats in Stillwater, while moving to 3-1 overall.
Oklahoma State and Cincinnati dueling as conference foes has been a long time coming, and the stars nearly aligned over 65 years ago. When the Cowboys left the Missouri Valley Conference in 1957-58, the Bearcats took their place. As an independent, OSU split its set of back-to-back contests versus Cincy, most recently battling on Sept. 17, 1983.
In the contest, the late Rusty Hilger connected on a pair of 9-yard touchdown passes to Jamie Harris and John Chesley. On the ground, Kelly Cook ran in a one-yard touchdown, while Shawn Jones sealed the deal in the fourth with a 30-yard run good for six.
Defensively, Mark Moore, Rod Fisher and Chris Rockins collected an interception for the Cowboys, while the team also forced two fumbles en route to a 27-17 win.
Oklahoma State returns to Boone Pickens Stadium looking to earn bowl eligibility for its 18th straight year, while Cincinnati hopes to move to 3-5 on the year. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT on Saturday, and the game will be televised live on ESPN2 with Roy Philpott, Roddy Jones and Taylor McGregor on the call.Â
