OSU’s running back is also the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week Again
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon II was named the Doak Walker National Running Back of the Week, as well as the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week, for a second straight week his performance in OSU's 48-34 win at West Virginia Saturday afternoon.
The news comes just a day after he was honored as the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week for a second straight week as well.
Gordon rushed for 282 yards and four touchdowns on 29 carries (9.7 yards per carry) in the road win. The performance marked the most rushing yards for an FBS player in a game this season.
Three of his touchdowns came in the fourth quarter, coming on 16-, 46- and 53-yard rushes. Gordon had five runs that gained more than 25 yards, with his longest carries on the day going for 53, 46, 34, 32, and 27 yards.
He is first Cowboy with four rushing touchdowns in a game since Rennie Childs did so on September 17, 2016, against Pittsburgh, and it is the most rushing yards by a Cowboy since All-American Chuba Hubbard ran for 296 yards against Kansas State on September 28, 2019.
Gordon is also the first Cowboy with four straight 100-plus yard rushing games since Jaylen Warren had four straight during the 2021 season. He now has eight rushing touchdowns on the season and 10 in his career, and he has found the end zone in three consecutive games.
The Doak Walker Award has been awarded to the nation's top running back since 1990, and since 2022, the award has recognized a national running back of the week. A select 20-person committee from the award's full voting body of media and past winners chooses the weekly recipient.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, announced in 2012 by the Tyler Chamber and SPORTyler, recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community, and tenacity. In addition, the nominee must meet be born in Texas, have graduated from a Texas high school or play at a Texas-based college.
Gordon and the Cowboys return to action Saturday, playing Cincinnati at 7 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
