Carmichael Reaches Coaching Milestone
October 20, 2023 | Cowgirl Soccer
On Thursday, September 28th, 2023, Colin Carmichael earned his 250th career win as a head coach when Oklahoma State upset No.19 UCF in Stillwater.
Carmichael has been with Cowgirl Soccer since it first took the pitch in the fall of 1996, and 2023 marks his 19th season at the program's helm. He has yet to have a losing season in his tenure.
The Scotland native has accumulated an impressive resume during his time at OSU. Carmichael has coached six All-Americans, with four of those earning recognition in multiple seasons. Along with the six Big 12 titles Carmichael and the Cowgirls have accomplished, they also have 12 appearances in the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship, where they have advanced to three Sweet 16s and a pair of Elite Eights.
When asked about his 250th career win, Coach Carmichael credited the success way beyond just him.
"It's a team effort. Whether it's the players, the support staff, the athletic trainer, the strength conditioning coaches, academic services – everybody plays a role, otherwise you will not have a successful program," Carmichael said.
After helping build the program as an assistant, Carmichael served as co-head coach with Karen Hancock in 2005 and 2006 before taking over the reins entirely in 2007. His first win as a head coach came on Aug. 26, 2005, when the Cowgirls knocked off Texas State, 3-0.
Carmichael is a six-time winner of the Big 12 Coach of the Year award, which stands as the conference record.
As the 2023 season winds down, Carmichael touched on his milestone victory and is focused on adding to the number.
"I just feel fortunate; I'm super excited that I've been able to do this here, and, hopefully, it gets to continue for a little bit longer," Carmichael said.
