Series History: Oklahoma State Seeks 10th All-Time Win Over West Virginia
October 20, 2023 | Cowboy Football
In its 15th-ever meeting, Oklahoma State looks to take down West Virginia on Saturday in Morgantown.
The Cowboys carry a 9-5 all-time record over the Mountaineers, with West Virginia having faced Oklahoma State in every year since joining the Big 12 in 2012. OSU has won seven of its last eight contests in Morgantown, bearing a four-game winning streak in road contests.
For head coach Mike Gundy, he'll be looking to collect the win in his 400th career game as a Cowboy. Gundy enters Saturday as a member of OSU for 46 games as a quarterback (1986-89), 116 games as an assistant coach (1900-95, 2001-04) and 237 games as head coach of the program.
Â
A season ago, then-freshman running back Ollie Gordon II starred against the Mountaineers, totaling 17 carries for 136 rushing yards and a touchdown. For Gordon II, these single-game statistics stood as his career bests up until three weeks ago – when his outputs hit the national stage.
Â
Across his last three games, Gordon II has averaged 141.7 rushing yards, 6.3 yards per carry and 22.3 carries per contest. His production reached the record books last week against Kansas, bringing in 168 rushing yards and 116 receiving yards across play. After becoming the first Cowboy since Gerald Hudson in 1989 to rack up 100+ rushing and 100+ receiving yards in a single game, he enters play fresh off earning Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, Doak Walker National Running Back of the Week and Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week honors.
Â
With Oklahoma State and West Virginia holding a 4-2 record on the year, both teams will look to inch closer to bowl eligibility with a victory. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT, and the game will be televised live on ESPN with Mike Monaco, Robert Griffin III and Kris Budden on the call.
