Series History: OSU and ASU Meet for First Time in 29 Years
September 08, 2022 | Cowboy Football
When Oklahoma State and Arizona State meet on Saturday night under the lights of Boone Pickens Stadium, it will mark the fourth meeting between the programs, and the first in 29 years.
The Sun Devils hold a 2-1 advantage in the series having won the past two meetings. The first matchup between the schools was held in 1984 as OSU upset No. 12 ASU, 45-3, in Tempe to open a 10-win season for the Cowboys.
Arizona State has won the last two meetings, winning 30-3 in Stillwater in 1991, and 12-10 in Tempe in 1993. A fourth-quarter safety was the difference in a defensive battle in 1993 after ASU and OSU traded touchdowns in the second quarter and field goals in the third.
Having not met since then, Mike Gundy has never faced Arizona State as head coach, nor has he stood across the sidelines from former NFL head coach and current ASU coach, Herm Edwards. However, Gundy has had success against the Pac-12, holding a 10-3 record in his career against members of the conference, including a 52-36 win at Oregon State in OSU's last meeting against a Pac-12 team in the 2019 season opener. Â
Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. on Saturday night between the Cowboys and Sun Devils and will be televised on ESPN2.
Â
Season tickets, three-game mini plans and single-game tickets are available at okstate.com/tickets or by calling or texting the OSU ticket office at 877-255-4678. Tickets for the Arizona State game are available for as low as $50.
