September 28, 2022 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State punter Tom Hutton is one of 156 semifinalists for the 2022 William V. Campbell Trophy, it was announced Wednesday by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame.
The award, which is in its 33rd year, recognizes an individual as the best football scholar-athlete in the nation for combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership. It is college football's premier scholar-athlete award.
A senior from Newborough, Victoria, Australia, Hutton is one of just 60 nominees with a grade-point average above 3.7. He has excelled both in the classroom and on the field during his time in Stillwater, earning academic all-conference honors and honorable mention all-conference honors in multiple seasons.
Hutton has excelled at punting accuracy and pinning opponents deep in their own territory throughout his career. He was an honorable mention for Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Year last season after OSU ranked No. 2 in the FBS in opponent punt return average. He helped OSU rank among the national leaders in 2020 as well. A 32-year-old senior, Hutton is also believed to be the oldest active player in the FBS this season.
Hutton and the Cowboys return to action Saturday, October 1, facing Baylor in the first road game of 2022.
