Cowboys Fourth After Day One At Olympia Fields

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – Oklahoma State's men's golf team opened its fall slate on Friday at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational with a 283 total to stand alone in fourth place at Olympia Fields Country Club.
The Cowboys' 3-over tally put them six shots behind Florida for third place at the par-70, 7,300-yard layout. Stanford fired a 10-under total of 270 to stand a shot clear of Illinois in the team race.
Stanford's Karl Vilips and Illinois' Adrien Dumont de Chassart each posted 5-under 65s to stand two shots clear of the field.
OSU's Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen used his 1-under 69 to finish among the top 10, sharing ninth place. The fifth-year standout went out in 1-under 34 with two birdies and one bogey on his opening nine. After carding his third birdie of the day at the 10th, his lone bogey of the inward nine was recorded at the 12th as he came home in even-par 35.
Hazen Newman rallied on the back nine to get back to even for the day. The senior stood at 3-over at the turn before carding birdies at Nos. 11, 16 and 17 before signing for a 70 to tie for 13th place.
Junior Jonas Baumgartner opened with a 72 to stand in a tie for 30th place. Baumgartner was joined by senior Rayhan Thomas, who also posted a 72 on Friday.
Junior Bo Jin carded an opening 73 and is tied for 43rd place.
The Cowboys will begin their second round tomorrow morning at 8:45 a.m. and will be grouped with Arizona State and Indiana. Live scoring for the event is available at golfstat.com.
