New Number, New Opportunities Await for Bryson Green
September 16, 2022 | Cowboy Football
A familiar fixture hung in Bryson Green's locker.
Â
After donning No. 19 in his freshman campaign, sophomore wide receiver Bryson Green stumbled upon a new set of attire heading into this season – his former high-school number, No. 9.
Â
Green, who played out his high-school career in Allen, Texas, captured prolific stat lines on the turf and on the hardwood. As a receiver, Green netted first-team all-district honors as a junior and notched a career 1,000 receiving yards in his senior campaign. On the basketball court, he and his twin brother and fellow OSU player Blaine Green helped generate a 13-9 record in their senior year showings.
Â
As Bryson wore out his brother's former number, No. 19, in his first year with Oklahoma State last season, he expected to carry the jersey into his sophomore season. That was not the case.
Â
"I was going to change numbers next year, but I just showed up to my locker, and I'm No. 9 this year, and I'll just run with it," said Green. "I did not know it was coming."
Â
Last season, Green established himself as a key contributor to the Cowboys' offense. After opening his collegiate career with a 41-yard effort versus Missouri State, the 6-foot-2 receiver earned six starting nods as a freshman, including an appearance against Notre Dame in the Playstation Fiesta Bowl.
Â
Now, entering his sophomore season for the Pokes, Green has been hard at work.
Â
"I was here with my team in the offseason working out with Coach Glass, Spencer, and the other receivers in our free time," said Green. "[We were] just getting the offense down so we can have a connection going into the season."
Â
Posting 12 receptions, 139 receiving yards and two touchdowns in his first year with the Pokes, Green has already taken large strides in his pair of sophomore efforts, making him a potential key cog moving forward.
Â
Green has found touchdowns in both performances as a starter, posting a career-best 83 reception yards, highlighted by a 31-yard touchdown, in his last performance versus Arizona State.
Â
With an amplified role, Green has asserted himself as a big-time target heading into the Pokes' date with Arkansas-Pine Bluff and beyond.
