August 15, 2022 | Cowgirl Tennis
STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State's women's tennis team has added Kristina Novak and Raquel Gonzalez to its roster for the upcoming season it was announced today by Cowgirl head coach Chris Young.
"I am really excited to add Kristina and Raquel to the roster for the fall semester and believe both will have a big impact on our ability to compete for championships," Young said. "It was a busy summer and I am grateful for the hard work Jaime put in. As a staff, we couldn't be more excited about this year's roster."
Novak comes to Stillwater after spending the previous three seasons at Nebraska where she was a first-team All-Big Ten selection the past two years.
In 2021-22, she competed at the No. 1 singles position and logged a 21-10 mark on the year, while finishing with a 19-6 mark at the Nos. 1 and 2 doubles slots.
She went 16-8 in singles action and 8-9 in doubles play during the 2020-21 campaign after posting a 13-7 mark and 6-8 doubles record during the shortened 2019-20 season. Overall, she has compiled a 50-21 singles record and 33-23 mark in doubles play during her collegiate career.
"Kristina brings the experience of being a top player in the Big Ten Conference and she has a desire for continued growth in her game. We can't wait to get on the court with her," Young said.
Gonzalez, a native of Villanueva de Castelló, Spain, carries an ITF juniors ranking of No. 51 and has six titles to her credit. A quarterfinalist at this year's European Championships, she counts a triumph at the Spanish U18 national championship among her career victories.
She won a pair of clay court singles events in 2022 as well as one in 2020. In doubles action, she picked up a pair of doubles titles in 2019 before adding a third in 2022.
"Raquel is a fierce competitor who will bring the energy on a daily basis and with the experience of more match play and a competitive environment, her best tennis still ahead," Young said.
