Oliver Named to Bednarik Award Watch List

STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State defensive end Collin Oliver is one of 90 players on the watch list for the 2022 Chuck Bednarik Award, announced Monday by the Maxwell Football Club.
Oliver, who was also named to the Nagurski Trophy watch list, is one of just eight sophomores on the watch list for the honor, which is presented annually to the outstanding defensive player in college football.
An Oklahoma City native, Oliver put together one of the most impressive true freshman seasons in the nation and in OSU history in 2021, earning unanimous Big 12 Freshman Defensive Player of the Year honors and freshman All-America honors.
He was one of three national finalists for the 2021 FWAA Freshman of the Year Award after ranking No. 7 in the FBS and setting an OSU freshman record with 11.5 sacks. That total also ranked as the seventh-best single-season total in school history.
Additional accolades included being named a semifinalist for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award and second team All-Big 12 honors from both the coaches and the Associated Press.
Semifinalists for the 2022 Chuck Bednarik Award will be announced November 1, while the three finalists be unveiled November 22. The winner will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards held December 8, and the formal presentation of the award will be made at the 86th Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala live from Atlantic City, New Jersey, on March 10, 2023.
Oklahoma State is scheduled to open the 2022 season September 1 when it faces Central Michigan at Boone Pickens Stadium, with kickoff set for 6 p.m. CT on FS1.
