Woodard Named to 2022 Outland Trophy Watch List
July 26, 2022 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State offensive guard Hunter Woodard is one of 89 FBS players on the preseason watch list for the 2022 Outland Trophy, it was announced Tuesday by the Football Writers Association of America.
A two-year starter on the Cowboy offensive line, Woodard is one of 10 players in the Big 12 named on the watch list for the Outland Trophy, which recognizes the best interior lineman in college football. Of the 10 representatives of the conference, Woodard is one of eight offensive lineman.
With 22 career starts at Oklahoma State, Woodard is the most experienced offensive lineman and only trails Spencer Sanders' 32 starts on the offensive side of the ball entering 2022. The redshirt senior started 12 games at right guard a season ago after missing the first two due to injury. A 2021 Honorable Mention All-Big 12 selection, Woodard has been credited with 16 pancake blocks and 62 knockdowns over the past two seasons.
The Outland Trophy winner is chosen from three finalists who are a part of the annual FWAA All-America Team. The FWAA All-America Committee, after voting input from the entire membership, selects a 26-man first team and eventually the three Outland finalists. Committee members, then by individual ballot, select the winner. Only interior linemen on offense or defense are eligible for the award; ends are not eligible.
The recipient of the 2022 Outland Trophy will be announced on The Home Depot College Football Awards, live on ESPN on Thurs., Dec. 8. The official presentation to the winner will be made at the Outland Trophy Awards Dinner sponsored by Werner Enterprises and produced by the Greater Omaha Sports Committee in Omaha, Neb., on Jan. 11, 2023.
Oklahoma State is scheduled to open the 2022 season September 1 when it faces Central Michigan at Boone Pickens Stadium, with kickoff set for 6 p.m. CT on FS1.
