Richardson Named to Doak Walker Award Watch List
July 20, 2022 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State running back Dominic Richardson is one of 73 FBS players on the watch list for the 2022 Doak Walker Award, announced Wednesday by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum.
Richardson, who looks to take on a larger role in the Cowboy offense after spending last season as a regular part of the rotation, is one of seven running backs from the Big 12 on the watch list for the award, which is presented annually to the nation's top college running back.
Having played in 21 career games as a contributor from the backfield and on special teams, Richardson saw action in all 14 games last season. In 2021, he logged a carry in every game except the season opener totaling 79 rushes for 373 yards and four scores.
Richardson has shown glimpses of what he could do as a workhorse having rushed for over 100 yards twice in his career, including a career high 174 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries as a true freshman against Baylor. Last season, he posted a season-high 134 yards and two scores on only 12 carries, averaging over 11 yards per carry against TCU,
The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will name ten semifinalists in November, and three finalists, as voted on by the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee, will be announced in November. The committee will cast a second vote in December to determine the 2022 Doak Walker Award recipient and will be announced live on ESPN December 8 during The Home Depot College Football Awards.
Oklahoma State is scheduled to open the 2022 season September 1 when it faces Central Michigan at Boone Pickens Stadium, with kickoff set for 6 p.m. CT on FS1.
