Gajewski, Oklahoma State Agree To Contract Extension Through 2027
May 28, 2022 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State and head softball coach Kenny Gajewski have agreed on a new contract that will keep him at the helm of the Cowgirls through 2027.
Gajewski coached Oklahoma State to its first conference title of the Big 12 era when the Cowgirls took down No. 1 Oklahoma in the championship game of the 2022 Big 12 tournament. OSU has played in the NCAA postseason every season since his arrival, with three appearances in the Women's College World Series, six NCAA regionals and three NCAA super regionals.
Including the 2022 season, Oklahoma State has appeared in each of the last three Women's College World Series.
"Coach Gajewski has built Cowgirl Softball into a perennial national contender", OSU Athletic Director Chad Weiberg said. "He has established Stillwater as a destination for elite softball players and model student-athletes. Consistent leadership is important to build a championship program the right way. Kenny wants to continue what he has started here and there is no one better to do so. We look forward to him leading OSU Softball for a long time".
In his seventh year at OSU, Gajewski has coached 11 All-Americans, 29 all-region and 32 all-Big 12 honorees and has overseen 80 academic all-Big 12, eight academic all-district and five Academic All-America honorees. Under Gajewski's guidance, Vanessa Shippy earned Big 12 Player of the Year honors in 2016 and 2018, Carrie Eberle was Big 12 Pitcher of the Year in 2021 and Kelly Maxwell was Big 12 co-Pitcher of the Year in 2022.
Has coached OSU to three wins over the nation's top-ranked team (2017 at Florida, 2021 vs. Oklahoma and 2022 vs. Oklahoma) and has led the Cowgirls to 14 wins over top-10 foes.
Gajewski-led staffs have twice been named the NFCA Midwest Coaching Staff of the Year, receiving the honor in 2017 and 2019.
"My family and I are grateful for the opportunity to continue leading the Cowgirl Softball program because from the moment we arrived in Stillwater, we knew this was home," Gajewski said. "There is a shared vision between Chad Weiberg, Dr. Kayse Shrum and myself and this is another step toward showing the national audience that softball is important here at Oklahoma State."
The extension is pending board approval.
