May 05, 2022 | Cowboy Football
Former Oklahoma State football player Bill Whitt passed away on May 4.
Â
Born on December 26, 1933, Whitt lettered for the OSU football team in 1954 and 1955. He played as part of OSU's backfield during his time in Stillwater and was part of both the J.B. Whitworth and Cliff Speegle coaching eras.
Â
Whitt accepted a scholarship to play football at Oklahoma State after finishing his prep career at Lindsay High School, where he excelled at multiple sports. He completed his collegiate playing career then stayed in Stillwater to assist with coaching duties while earning his master's degree.
Â
During his two years as a letterwinner, Whitt was a threat as both a ball carrier and as a pass catcher. One of his highlight performances came in OSU's 14-6 win over Texas A&M in Dallas on September 25, 1954, as Whitt scored a touchdown, recorded an interception, helped block an extra point attempt and batted a ball that led to another interception in OSU's one-possession win over Texas A&M.
