Brennan Presley Set To Lead Cowboy Receiving Core
April 06, 2022 | Cowboy Football
Brennan Presley has excelled on offense and special teams during his time at Oklahoma State. The former Oklahoma Gatorade HS Player of the Year in 2019 has cemented himself as one of the key playmakers on the roster.
Presley enters his junior season with significant experience after playing in 10 of OSU's 11 games as a true freshman in 2020. Last season, Presley played in every game garnering 11 starts and posting 1,113 all-purpose yards, which were second on the team.
In addition, Presley finished as OSU's second-leading receiver in terms of receptions, yards, and touchdowns, with 50 catches for 619 yards and five scores.
With last year's leading receiver, Tay Martin, having exhausted all of his eligibility and focusing on making an NFL roster, OSU will rely on Presley to assume a leadership role as one of the more experienced guys in the offensive attack heading into 2022.
"It's weird because a couple of years ago, I was the most inexperienced guy," Presley said. "It's cool, but it's also weird at the same time since it's not necessarily a new role but another task to take on. I love it—the chance to show what I know and get down what I know. At the end of the day, it's all about having each other because we're a team. Whatever I can give to them to help them get better at the end of the day is what I'm trying to do."
Although OSU is in the early stages of spring football, Presley is happy with how practices have been going.
"It's been going really good," Presley said. "The first day of pads was really good, everyone was out there competing and getting reps. It's been a bunch of new guys stepping up and freshmen here. It's all about getting the reps and we've been doing that and having fun with it."
With more reps comes more opportunity, and the Cowboy youngsters have risen to the occasion.
"Talyn and Tabry (Shettron) have stepped up," Presley said. "Ollie Gordon, Garrett Rangel, those are the guys I've seen since I'm on offense, step up and go with the threes or sometimes even the twos. They're getting in there, getting a shot and making plays when they have to."
With age comes wisdom, and Presley is sure to cherish each moment starting in spring practice.
"I'm having fun with the guys," Presley said. "Even though the bowl game was just a few months ago, having the chance to get back out here with all these guys. Most of the guys are seniors since I'm starting to grow up, so it's a chance to cherish the moments with some of the guys leaving and welcome in some of the new ones, and with my class being older, it's a chance for most of the guys in my class to step in there and make plays. So having fun with it is all I'm worried about."
The Cowboys will continue spring practice in April, leading up to the Spring Football Finale on Saturday, April 23.
