Roe Leads Cowgirls to Third Consecutive 4x1600 Meter Title on Second Day of Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa โย Oklahoma State outdoor track & field opened its first full day of action at the Drake Relays on Friday with four relay squads competing in two separate relay events.

The women's 4x1600 Meter squad of Heidi Demeo, Sivan Auerbach, Lilly Lavier and Taylor Roe defended the Cowgirls' title at the Drake Relays with an eight-second victory and a time of 19:03.37. Roe took the baton less than a second behind Utah and proceeded to run the fastest split of the race with a time of 4:34.84. Her split was nearly eight seconds faster than any other in the entire race, with Auerbach splitting the second-fastest time of 4:42.19.

The Cowgirls have now won three straight titles and five of the past six Drake Relays titles in the event and currently hold the meet record of 18:58.11 set back in 2015.

Immediately following the women's race, Kian Davis, Chris Middleton-Pearson, Isaiah Priddey and Shea Foster earned a second-place finish in the men's 4x1600 Relay with a time of 16:31.38. The Cowboys took over the second position during the second leg and held on behind eventual winners Iowa State.

Both the Cowboys and Cowgirls returned for the night cap in the men's and women's 4x800 Meter Relays, which count toward the Hy-Vee Cup standings along with the 4x100, 4x400, Distance Medley and Sprint Medley Relays.

Auerbach and Roe returned for the Cowgirls in the 4x800 alongside Gabija Galvydyte and Maddie Salek and earned a second-place finish with a time of 8:28.17. Galvydyte anchored the squad and closed with a 2:03.37 split, which was the fastest split in the race, ahead of Kansas State's Kassidy Johnson.

In the men's 4x800, Middleton-Pearson joined Fouad Messaoudi, EJ Berry and Ryan Schoppe for a seventh-place finish with a time of 7:29.96.

The Cowboys and Cowgirls return on Saturday for the remaining four events in the Hy-Vee Cup. The Cowgirls sit second and the Cowboys are seventh in the standings with four of the five events remaining tomorrow.
