STILLWATER – Oklahoma State Athletics has received a $500,000 challenge gift for the POSSE STAR Fund, which provides all of OSU's scholarship student-athletes with $5,980 per year.
The gift is earmarked to support student-athletes in OSU's nine intercollegiate women's sports. The donors, who wish to remain anonymous, intend for the gift to be a challenge to other OSU supporters by matching all POSSE STAR Fund contributions to Cowgirl programs up to $500,000, pushing the total potential amount raised to $1 million.
"We are grateful to these donors for recognizing the significant impact the POSSE STAR Fund will have on all of our scholarship student-athletes, the vast majority of whom are on limited and, in some cases, small amounts of aid. So, for many of these student-athletes, the additional award they will receive through the POSSE STAR Fund is a game-changer for them and their families," OSU Athletic Director Chad Weiberg said.
The POSSE STAR Fund launched earlier this year with Oklahoma State student-athletes receiving payments starting in the fall semester of 2022. The money used to fund it come through gifts to the POSSE, which exists to give Oklahoma State student-athletes the resources they need to reach their full potential, both in competition and in the classroom.
"We appreciate these donors for recognizing the importance of this and their desire to help activate our passionate donor base to help make this happen for our student-athletes," Weiberg said.
Fully funding the POSSE STAR Fund comes at a total cost of $2.5 million.
Those interested in donating to the fund can do so by visiting okstate.com/starfund or by calling the POSSE office at 405-744-7301.
