April 10, 2022 | Cowgirl Soccer
STILLWATER — Oklahoma State closed out its spring exhibition season Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 win over North Texas at Neal Patterson Stadium.
With the win, OSU finished the spring season 5-0, and the Cowgirls outscored their opponents 18-5 along the way.
The game started out back-and-forth, with Cowgirl keeper Jordan Burbank being forced into a couple of early saves. However, the Cowgirls were able to strike first following an Olyvia Dowell rebound shot after Eryka McIntyre had her shot saved by the North Texas goalkeeper.
After taking the lead early, the Cowgirls were able to defend well and go into halftime with the one-goal advantage.
Following the intermission, the Cowgirls and Mean Green went end-to-end to start off the half, but the OSU defense was able to hold strong and keep the match at 1-0 with 15 minutes remaining in the half.
OSU almost doubled their lead after Samiah Phiri made a deep run into the box, but the shot was saved by the UNT goalkeeper.
The Cowgirls would hold stout defensively down the stretch to secure their second clean sheet of the spring season.
