Cowgirl Softball Claims First Extra Innings Win Of Season

STILLWATER – In a game that started Saturday, was suspended due to weather and resumed Wednesday, the Oklahoma State softball team was a 7-6 winner over Minnesota in 10 innings. A walk-off four-pitch walk to Sydney Pennington brought home Kiley Naomi with the winning run.

Despite trailing by two runs in the ninth inning and one run in the 10th, Oklahoma State improved to 13-5 with the win, while Minnesota fell to 11-9.

Morgan Day (3-1) recorded the win with 1 1/3 innings of work.

On Saturday, the game was stopped in the top of the fifth inning with no outs and the bases loaded for the Golden Gophers with Minnesota holding a 2-1 lead and threatening to blow the game open. That was the situation that OSU left-hander Kelly Maxwell started Wednesday's game with.

She pitched her way out of the fifth-inning bases loaded jam by striking out each of the three batters she faced.

Sydney Pennington gave the Cowgirls a 3-2 lead in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run home run to left, her first of the season.

Minnesota scored two runs on a two-run home run in the top of the ninth by Natalie DenHartog. OSU immediately answered with back-to-back doubles by Katelynn Carwile and Miranda Elish. Taylor Tuck singled to bring in Elish and tie the game.

An RBI single in the top of the tenth by Sydney Strelow gave the Golden Gophers the go-ahead run. In the bottom of the tenth, Carwile singled in Brianna Evans to tie the game. Pennington ended the game with a walk-off walk.
