Spring Preview: Safeties

With spring football practice underway at Oklahoma State, okstate.com is taking a look at the status of every position group to break down the personnel and how things look heading into the 2022 season. Next up, the Cowboy safeties:
Like most of the defense, safety is another spot where OSU loses the vast majority of its experience. Most prominently, All-American Kolby Harvell-Peel and multiple-year starters Tanner McCalister and Tre Sterling will have to be replaced.
The unquestioned veteran of the group is now redshirt senior Jason Taylor II, who was a full-time starter in 2021 and has made several game-changing plays throughout his 41-game career.
The only other players with at least one start are Thomas Harper, who has played in 35 games with one start, and Trey Rucker, who has played in 32 games with nine starts at Wake Forest.
Redshirt senior Kanion Williams returns with 39 games played on special teams and was voted a special teams captain in 2021. Sean Michael Flanagan and Nick Session also return with special teams experience, as well as redshirt freshmen Kendal Daniels, Ty Williams and Lyrik Rawls.
Four more walk-ons will provide depth.
