Cowgirl Tennis Closes Weekend With Dominant Win

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's 11th-ranked women's tennis team closed out its conference homestand with a top 25 win on Sunday, dominating the No. 22 Baylor Bears in Stillwater, 5-2.  Â
The Cowgirls improved to 12-3 overall and 3-1 in Big 12 play on the year. Â
It was an exciting start to the match as the Cowgirls came out on fire to clinch the doubles point over the Bears. No. 14 Lisa Marie Rioux and Ayumi Miyamoto downed the fifth-ranked duo in the nation, Mel Krywoj and Alicia Herreroin of Baylor, 6-3. Â
Mhai Sawangkaew and Martina Zerulo clinched the doubles point for OSU, wasting no time on the way to a 6-3 rout of Baylor's Anita Sahdiieva and AC Zamburek. Â
When their match was stopped, Alana Wolfberg and Oona Orpana were tied at five apiece with Paula Baranano and Alina Shcherbinina. Â
Singles action began with 30th-ranked Mhai Sawangkaew of OSU cruising to a 6-2, 6-2 victory on court two over Alicia Herrero. No. 104 Oona Orpana extended OSU's lead on court four, where she controlled the entirety of the match, earning a 6-2, 6-3 win. Â
No. 42 Lisa Marie Rioux was steady on court one, winning her match in straight sets over No. 109 Isabella Harvison, 6-4, 6-2, earning the match-clinching point. Â
The remaining matches played out, allowing Sofia Rojas to finish off her impressive performance on court six where she added to the Cowgirl lead with her 6-3, 6-4 victory over Paula Baranano.Â
Ayumi Miyamoto dropped a hard-fought match in a tiebreaker to Baylor's Anita Sahdiieva, 6-1, 4-6, (10-8). When she retired, Martina Zerulo was tied at two with Mel Krywoj, giving Baylor its second point of the day.  Â
Next up, OSU hits the road for pair of conference matches, starting with Texas Tech Friday at 5 p.m. in Lubbock. Â
