Cowgirl Tennis Falls To No. 6 Texas

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's 11th-ranked Cowgirl tennis team came up short in a tightly-contested 4-1 setback against No. 6 Texas at the Greenwood Tennis Center on Friday.
With the loss, the Cowgirls fell to 11-3 overall and 2-1 in Big 12 play on the year.
The match began with doubles where No. 14 Lisa Marie Rioux and Ayumi Miyamoto suffered their first loss of the season in doubles play. The Cowgirl pair fell to No. 77 Peyton Stearns and Allura Zamarripa, 6-2.
Alana Wolfberg and Oona Orpana went back and forth with Vivian Ovrootsky and Sabina Zeynalova of Texas before dropping the match, 6-3, giving Texas the doubles point.
No. 49 Mhai Sawangkaew and Martina Zerulo were in a battle with Kylie Collins and Bella Zamarripa when the point was decided. After trailing early, the Cowgirl duo caught fire and battled back to tie the match at four when their match was called.
In singles action, Texas scored two consecutive points after Vivian Ovrootsky's took down No. 104 Oona Orpana, 6-3, 6-0, and OSU's 30th-ranked Mhai Sawangkaew fell to No. 50 Kylie Collins, 6-4, 6-1.
Ayumi Miyamoto got the Cowgirls on the board, cutting into the deficit with a rout over 99th-ranked Malaika Rapolu, winning by a score of 6-4, 6-3.
With no margin for error left, No. 42 Lisa Marie Rioux put together a strong match against No. 5 Peyton Stearns but came up short, dropping the match in three sets, 4-6, 6-0, 3-6, as the Longhorns clinched the match.
Sofia Rojas won her first set and was tied at two apiece in the third set when her match was called. Despite dropping the first set, Martina Zerulo was on the way to a comeback against No. 75 Sabina Zeynalova on court three, where she led 5-2 in the second set when her match was halted.
OSU is back in action against No. 22 Baylor Sunday at 1 p.m. in Stillwater.
