STILLWATER, Okla. – The Oklahoma State football team hosted its annual Pro Day Thursday inside the weight room at Boone Pickens Stadium and on the field at the Sherman E. Smith Training Center, with 12 Cowboys working out in front of representatives from nearly every NFL team.
Some of the top marks from the day included 36 reps on the bench press from linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez, a 40.5" vertical jump from linebacker Devin Harper and a 10'6" broad jump from cornerback Christian Holmes.
The 36 bench press reps from Rodriguez are four more than any player at any position put up at the 2022 NFL Combine and are tied for the most by a linebacker at any NFL Combine since 2006.
"It felt like old times in the weight room," Rodriguez said. "'Body by Glass' is what we call it. Just to hear (my teammates) cheer me on was awesome. I definitely felt it, so getting those couple of extra reps helped."
Harper's vertical would have tied for the fourth-best jump of any player and the second-best of any linebacker at the combine, while the 39" jump from Holmes would have ranked as the fourth-best among defensive backs.
"Everybody was out there competing, which is what we're all supposed to do as football players," Harper said. "At the end of the day, as long as you compete and you put your heart out, that's all you can do and that's all you can ask for from everybody."
Other notable marks that would have ranked in the top 10 of their position groups at the 2022 NFL Combine included 21 bench press reps from Harper, a 39-inch vertical jump from Holmes, 28 bench press reps from defensive tackle Israel Antwine, a 37.5" vertical jump from safety Kolby Harvell-Peel, a 36.5" vertical jump from safety Tre Sterling and a 10'5" broad jump from running back LD Brown.
Following the conclusion of Pro Day, several Cowboys met with media to discuss the day's events. Some of their comments are below:
Linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez
On his 36 reps on bench press:
"It felt like old times in the weight room, 'Body by Glass' is what we call it. Just to hear them cheer me on was awesome. I definitely felt it, so getting those couple of extra reps helped."
On the entire NFL Draft process:
"It's gone very smooth. I stayed after the bowl game in Arizona, perfecting the technique and all that. The whole process has gone smoothly and I'm thankful to be in this position."
On going through the process with Devin Harper:
"It's been awesome. We're training out in Arizona together. He was throwing up crazy numbers, so I knew he was going to blow this Pro Day out. Devin is a hard worker. He should've been at the combine, but I knew at the Pro Day he would blow it up and his numbers would be up there with everything else."
On dreams becoming a reality:
"I'm excited. I do one day at a time and see how it goes. I have no control, it's one of those things. I've put the work in, and I've put what I've put out there, and hopefully, it's good enough for them to grab it."
Linebacker Devin Harper
On his Pro Day performance:
"I did pretty good. Everybody was out there competing, which is what we're all supposed to do as football players. At the end of the day, as long as you compete and you put your heart out, that's all you can do and that's all you can ask for from everybody."
On going through the NFL Draft process:
"It's a dream come true. As a kid, we all wanted to play college football, we wanted to play Power Five and we also wanted to go to the draft and do this, and I'm kind of living it out right now. So, I'm just taking it all in and thanking the Lord to be honest."
On what he's trying to prove to NFL scouts:
"Just showing them that there's a lot more to come. This is just the beginning. That's really the main thing I'm trying to show them, and just show them how athletic I am and versatile."
Wide Receiver Tay Martin
On his Pro Day performance:
"It was OK. Always feel like you can do better, but I'm definitely satisfied. The way I came out here and gave my all, I'm just happy and overwhelmed about what's to come next. (I'm) excited."
On his emotions about the chance to play in the NFL:
"Overwhelming. Happy. Ecstatic. Just ready for the next step. It feels kind of weird not being on a football team right now, so just kind of waiting on that to end, honestly."
On what he did well at Pro Day:
"Ran some routes. That's kind of what I take pride in football. I love football. I'm truly blessed to be able to run the routes the way I can. Running routes is like riding a bike for me, so anytime I'm able to run routes out there in front of these guys, I'm definitely confident."
On what it meant to him to be a Cowboy:
"It meant the most for me, honestly, for this fanbase and these players and the coaching staff to take me in the way that they did. I'm forever grateful for these guys to have my best interest and be there for me the way that they were when I transferred in. So, I'm definitely appreciative."
Running Back Jaylen Warren
On the whole process of preparing for the draft:
"It's long, coming from the combine, it's three weeks until the Pro Day, so you can't let off. You have to capitalize on whatever you didn't do at the combine, doing it better here, perfecting it basically. Today was my last chance to show them what I could do on the field, now it's just whatever happens from here."
On coming to OSU:
"I did not expect to have the season I had. It was 100% worth it. I'm glad I made the move. I don't regret anything in my journey that led me here, and I'm grateful for all of it."
On reflecting on the journey:
"I wish I could do it more, my family likes to remind me. I do as time went on, especially after the season. I never saw myself at this big of a school, especially doing what I did. I never saw myself doing all that."
