Cowgirl Soccer Opens Spring Exhibition Season With Win

STILLWATER, Okla. β Oklahoma State played its first soccer match in over five months Wednesday as the Cowgirls opened their spring exhibition season with a 3-2 victory over Oral Roberts at Neal Patterson Stadium.
The Golden Eagles struck first when Samantha See was able to pounce on a mishandled ball by OSU goalkeeper Jordan Burbank, who made her Cowgirl debut after transferring from Texas A&M. OSU kept the pressure on despite the early goal but were unable to find the back of the net in the first half.

The Cowgirls came out firing in the second half, scoring two early goals within the first 15 minutes out of intermission. Olyvia Dowell equalized in the first five minutes after driving the ball into the box and firing the shot into the top of the net. Grace Yochum was the second Cowgirl to get on the scoresheet when she drew a foul and bent in a free kick from outside the box to put the Cowgirls in the lead, 2-1, with 30 minutes remaining in the match.

Yochum struck again for the Cowgirls in the 67th minute after she was able to convert a diving header that sent the ball firing into the back of the net and increased OSU's lead to 3-1.
Oral Roberts got a late goal in the 89th minute when Kristi Keller was able to bend the ball past Cowgirl goalkeeper Peyton Pearson, who also made her debut for OSU on Wednesday night.

The Cowgirls will be back in action Saturday when they welcome Central Oklahoma to Patterson Stadium, with kickoff set for 12 p.m.
