Cowboys Surge To Lead At N.I.T.

TUCSON, Ariz. – Oklahoma State's men's golf team blitzed the field on Friday during the first day of action at the N.I.T. to hold a 21-shot lead at OMNI Tucson National's Catalina Course.
The second-ranked Cowboys opened with a 22-under 266, which featured 24 birdies against just two bogeys from their four counting scores, during the first round to grab a five-shot lead. Head coach Alan Bratton's squad followed with a 269 during afternoon play to stand at 41-under 535.
Tournament host Arizona stands in second place at the par-72, 7,200-yard layout with its 556 tally.
Eugenio Chacarra fired rounds of 65 and 67 to hold a one-stroke lead at 12-under 132. The Cowboy senior put together a bogey-free round in the morning, carding seven birdies on his way to his 65. He followed with his 5-under second round to move into the top spot on the leaderboard.
Classmate Aman Gupta came in a stroke back and tied for second at 133 after posting rounds of 68 and 65. Like Chacarra, Gupta's 7-under score came in bogey-free fashion and featured seven birdies.
Brian Stark joined the duo in the top 10, finishing the day tied for sixth place at 135. The junior signed for scores of 65 and 70.
Senior Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen carded scores of 68 and 70 to finish tied for 12th place at 138.
After opening with a 74, junior Rayhan Thomas vaulted 45 spots into a tie for 23rd place with a 67 to stand at 141.
Sophomore Bo Jin is competing individually and posted a 141 total as well with scores of 72 and 69.
