Cowgirl Tennis Takes Down No. 24 Kansas To Extend Its Winning Streak To 10

STILLWATER - Oklahoma State's seventh-ranked women's tennis team closed out its conference-opening homestand with a top-25 win on Sunday, taking down the No. 24 Kansas Jayhawks in Stillwater, 4-1.
The Cowgirls improved to 11-1 overall and 2-0 in Big 12 play on the year. Additionally, OSU extended its winning streak to 10 while outscoring opponents by a combined 43-4 count during the string.
OSU started the afternoon by taking the doubles point after victories on courts two and three. No. 38 Mhai Sawangkaew and Martina Zerulo suffered their first loss of the season in doubles play. The Cowgirl pair went back and forth with Maria Titova and Malkia Nguonoue of Kansas before dropping the match, 6-4.
After falling to an early deficit, Alana Wolfberg and Oona Orpana showed resiliency battling back to win their match handily over Raphaelle Lacasse and Julia Deming of Kansas, 6-3.
With the doubles point up for grabs, No. 22 Ayumi Miyamoto and Lisa Marie Rioux rose to the occasion and delivered a 7-6 (7-2) clutch victory to seal a Cowgirl point. OSU has won the doubles point in 10 out of its 11 matches this spring.
Following an exciting doubles match, No. 82 Oona Orpana capped off her impressive day by cruising to a 6-2, 6-3 victory in straight sets over Jayhawk Raphaelle. Martina Zerulo extended the Cowgirl lead and wrapped up her undefeated singles weekend, defeating Sonia Smagina of Kansas, 6-1, 6-4.
Kansas scored its lone point of the afternoon via Carmen Roxana Manu's, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6)
defeat of Ayumi Miyamoto.
After starting slow on court two, Mhai Sawangkaew dominated the second and third sets to handle No. 124 Malkia Nguonoue, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3, to seal the match-clinching point for the Cowgirls. With today's victory, Sawangkaew moved to a perfect 10-0 clip on the season.
Lisa Marie Rioux was on the verge of closing out the match as she led No. 59 Maria Titova, 7-6, 5-2 when her match was called. Sofia Rojas was in a second-set tiebreaker when her match was halted.
Next up, OSU is set for a road test against UCF next Sunday at noon in Orlando, Florida.
