STILLWATER, Okla. - The top-ranked Oklahoma State equestrian team defeated No. 8 Fresno State, 13-5, Saturday at the Pedigo-Hull Equestrian Center to bring their home record to a perfect 4-0 on the season. Directly after the meet, the Cowgirls honored Hannah Lovrien, Katie Pelzel, Hannah Coleman, and Sydnie Ziegler for senior night. Â
"I could not have hoped for a better sendoff for our seniors today! The leadership that they have brought to our team over the past four years is irreplaceable," OSU head coach Larry Sanchez said. "I like the grit that our girls have shown this year. Meet after meet, they have fought to the very end and that is what it takes to have success. We have three strong opponents coming up, and we will need to continue to work hard and get even better."Â Â
The Cowgirls started the meet by shutting out the Bulldogs in Fences, 4-0. Emma Pacyna and Fresno State's Ana Bertozzi both scored an 86 in which no point was awarded. Sydney North tallied an OSU point by defeating Olivia Ferro, 78-67. Â Â
Ziegler earned her second consecutive MOP honor with a career-high 90.5 to defeat Lizzie Stodden, and Abigail Brayman picked up a victory against Cecily Hayes, 74-62. Hope King followed suit with her ride and bested Grace Mathis, 76-70. Â
Reining occurred simultaneously with Fences. The only two Bulldog points came from Bailey Alexander and Ashley Jackson who won, 72.5-72 and 70.5-69, respectively. There was no point awarded as Molly Mitchell and Lexee Padrick tied at 73. Â Â
Kelly Harper secured another point for the Cowgirls and earned her first career MOP honor, besting her opponent, 73-72.5, and Quincee Clark concluded the half with a 73-72 win over Emily Maul to give the Cowgirls a 6-2 lead at intermission. Â Â
To start off the second half, OSU swept Fresno State in Flat. Team captain Pelzel secured a victory, 87.5-85.5, against Bertozzi. Brayman and King followed suit and earned two more Cowgirl points, winning 90.5-77.5 and 83-79, respectively. Â Â
Ziegler continued her successful day and scored a 76.5 for her 12th individual win on the season. Coleman concluded the discipline with an MOP-worthy ride of 89.5 to defeat Mathis and secure the Cowgirl victory. Â
In Horsemanship, Bulldog Alex Krebs began with a 78.5-77.5 win. Claire McDowall earned another tally and her first career MOP-honor by defeating Hannah Buijs, 79-75.5. Caroline Nielson and Natalie Vargo barely dropped their points, 79-77.5 and 72-71, respectively. To conclude the meet, Jojo Roberson scored a 79.5 to best Alexis Steele. Â
OSU will be back in action Saturday as the Cowgirls travel to Fort Worth, Texas, to take on No. 5 TCU. The Horned Frogs are currently second in the Big 12 standings behind OSU, with the Cowgirls winning the previous meeting by a 12-6 margin at home earlier this season. Â
