Alex Maier Named Big 12 Men’s Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year

STILLWATER — Oklahoma State distance runner Alex Maier was named Big 12 Men's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year following his dominant season on the grass and in the classroom, the conference announced Thursday.

The conference's head coaches voted based on a combination of academic and athletic performance in their respective sports during the fall season. Maier holds a 3.79 GPA as an electrical engineering technology major and participated in 66.7% of OSU's cross country events this season. He was also named USTFCCCA Midwest Region Athlete of the Year and Big 12 Runner of the Year after winning the Big 12 individual championship and fifth-place overall finish at the NCAA Championships.

The Flower Mound, Texas, native also picked up his third Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection this season due to his strong showing in the classroom.
