December 01, 2022 | Cowboy Baseball
STILLWATER – Four Oklahoma State players were named to D1Baseball's College Top 100 Prospects for the 2023 Major League Baseball Draft.
OSU's four selections are the most of any Big 12 Conference program as Cowboys Juaron Watts-Brown, Rog Riggio, Nolan McLean and Marcus Brown made the list. Watts-Brown is the highest-ranked Cowboy, coming in at No. 22, followed by Riggio (33), McLean (56) and Brown (81).
Watts-Brown transferred to OSU after earning Freshman All-America honors at Long Beach State last season. The right-handed pitcher went 4-4 with a 3.68 ERA in 15 appearances, including 12 starts, for the Dirtbags and racked up 111 strikeouts in 73 1/3 innings.
Riggio also enjoyed a Freshman All-America campaign in 2022, as he started 53 games for the Cowboys and hit .295 with 11 home runs, 14 doubles and 47 RBIs.
A second baseman, Riggio caught fire at the end of the season, hitting safely in OSU's final nine games and earning all-tournament honors at both the Big 12 Championship and the NCAA Stillwater Regional. In the NCAA tourney, he hit .556 with four homers, five doubles and 17 RBIs in five games.
McLean was a two-way standout and All-American as a sophomore last season and spurned professional baseball to return to Stillwater after being selected with the first pick of the third round of last June's Major League Baseball Draft by the Baltimore Orioles.
At the plate, McLean slugged a team-high 19 home runs in 2022 and hit .285 with 16 doubles and 47 RBIs while spending the majority of his time at third base.
On the mound, the right-handed McLean made 23 relief appearances and posted a 2-1 record and five saves while recording 39 strikeouts in 25 1/3 innings.
Brown started 61 games as a sophomore for the Cowboys last season and recorded 23 multi-hit games to go along with a .316 batting average, four homers, 15 doubles and 31 RBIs.
Primarily a shortstop, Brown was an honorable mention All-Big 12 performer in 2022, and he was named a Cape Cod League All-Star over the summer after starring for the Chatham Anglers.
