November 30, 2022 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER - Six members of the Oklahoma State football team earned 2022 All-Big 12 honors from the league's coaches, headlined by first-team selection Jason Taylor II and Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year Kendal Daniels.
Taylor was the lone Cowboy representative on the All-Big 12 first team, with Daniels, Brock Martin, Collin Oliver, Mason Cobb and Tanner Brown earning second-team recognition.
Taylor is tied for first among FBS players and led the conference with six interceptions during the regular season. He is OSU's second leading tackler with 87 total stops, including 72 solo tackles, which is tied for second most in the nation by any position and tops by a safety.
A redshirt freshman who has played in every game and started five, Daniels has recorded 69 tackles in his first year with significant playing time. He intercepted three passes, broke up three more and forced one fumble. Among freshman defenders in the conference, Daniels leads the group in interceptions, tackles, solo tackles, passes defended and tackles for loss. Daniels makes it two years in a row OSU has claimed the Defensive Freshman of the Year Award following Oliver in 2021.
Martin earned All-Big 12 honors for the second time in his career after being on the first team last season. As one of nine super seniors on the OSU roster, he totaled 37 tackles to go along with 9.5 tackles for loss and three sacks in the regular season, both second on the team.
A two-time second-team All-Big 12 selection, Oliver logged five sacks and recorded a team-leading 12 quarterback hurries. He also had 7.5 tackles for loss and 27 tackles.
In his first season as a full-time starter, Cobb leads the Pokes in tackles and tackles for loss. He is tied for fifth in the conference with 96 total tackles, which includes 58 solo stops, and his 13.0 tackles for loss is the second highest mark in the Big 12. The Provo, Utah native posted a career high 16 tackles against TCU, which was the most in a single game by an OSU player since Jordan Sterns had 20 tackles on Oct. 25, 2014.
The kicker on the All-Big 12 second team, Brown was the conference's special teams player of the week twice during the 2022 season. Brown has converted 21-of-22 field goal attempts this season, leading the conference in successful field goals and made field goals per game. He's averaging 9.4 points per game for the Cowboys, which is second most in the Big 12 among all players and leads kickers in the conference. Brown tied a career high with four field goals in back-to-back games against TCU and Texas and connected on a career long 52-yard attempt against the Horned Frogs.
Eight more Cowboys were recognized as honorable mentions for their performances during the 2022 season, including Tyler Lacy, Jabbar Muhammad, Jaden Nixon, Brennan Presley, Spencer Sanders, Jake Schultz, Jake Springfield and Hunter Woodard.
